How to use Overlay Icons?

On overlay is a small image which is added to a base icon to indicate an action or a state. For example, the icons below a composed of a "document" base icon and several overlays:

Adding an overlay to an icon is simple and intuitive in Axialis IconWorkshop. As an example, follow the procedure below:

1. In the Librarian window (choose View/Librarian if it is not visible), select the folder "Sample/Flat Icons/Base Icons". Double-click on file "Document.ico". The file is opened in a document window.

2. Select folder "Sample/Flat Icons/Overlays" in the librarian (1)

3. In the file pane, click on "ov_add.ico" (2) and drag/drop in the opened document window (3).

4. The overlay is added to the icon (4).

5. Redo the same for the rest of the image formats.

6. Save the icon with a new filename.

REMARK: You'll see "*.mask.ico" files in the overlay folder. These mask icons are used by IconWorkshop to create a transparent area around the overlay for better result when applied. Do not use these icons directly via drag/drop.
